Secondary Sump Pumps - Do I need one?

If you've installed a sump pump to keep the basement dry, your basement will be protected most of the time. However, if there is a failure in the sump pump system of any kind, including power outages or mechanical failures, your sump pump system may fail. When rains are at their worst and the waters are rising, you'll be very glad that you have a backup sump pump that can kick in and pick up the slack. How will you know otherwise when there's a problem with your system? Your basement will flood!

While a battery backup sump pump has only a limited charge, a secondary sump pump operates for as long as there is power to the home, with no worry of a charge running out and the basement flooding. A secondary pump would be set up higher than the primary pump, so it will only kick on if the water reaches past the point where the primary pump should have removed the water.
